The story follows Izabela, a Czech farm girl who falls deeply in love with Bill, a British soldier sent to labor on her family’s land. Seeking freedom, they marry in secret and run away into the dead of night. But their freedom is violently cut short when they are cornered by German soldiers with tracking dogs. In a desperate, split-second decision, Izabela uses her short-cropped hair and oversized men’s clothing to pose as a British soldier. The deception works, but it lands her in a nightmare: a military prison camp where discovery means an immediate execution for espionage.
